Mr. Cannon is the Executive Vice Chancellor and General Counsel for Washington University and is responsible for providing legal representation and counsel to all academic and administrative components of the University, including its School of Medicine.

Mr. Cannon was a partner at Wiley, Rein & Fielding in Washington, D.C. from 1988 1993 where he specialized in general commercial law and litigation with an emphasis on insurance contract litigation, counseling and negotiation. Previously, he was a partner with Piper & Marbury and an Associate with Wald, Harkrader & Ross, both of Washington, D.C., where he concentrated on general commercial and corporate transactions and litigation. Mr. Cannon also served as a federal prosecutor of government corruption cases, operating out of the Criminal Division of the United States Department of Justice from 1978-1980.

Mr. Cannon is a 1973 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis (A.B. Economics) where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa in his junior and senior years. He received his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1978. Mr. Cannon also attended Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship, where he received a B. Litt in Politics (1975). He is a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Washington D.C. Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Arbitration Association and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Washington University School of Law lecturing on insurance law.
